On Saturday September 10, hundreds of Torontonians will descend on Dufferin Grove Park to participate in a grassroots, democratic discussion about what kind of city we want to live in and what we’re going to do to build it.
Such an undertaking requires effort and planning by organizers and volunteers.
Can you help this meeting unfold as smoothly, accessibly, and democratically as possible? Can you spare some time before and after the meeting? We are looking for volunteers to assist in the crews listed below.
Please email Sept10volunteers@gmail.com indicating your area of interest as well as a very brief description of related or previous volunteer experience.
* A star marks the volunteer responsibilities that might require that you not be a part of a break-out section in the meeting (such as neighbourhood, issue-based, workplace-based break-outs). Please offer your volunteer labour for such responsibilities only if you are sure you could live without participating fully in the meeting’s discussions.
** A double star indicates responsibilities for which volunteers will be screened.
Sept. 10 Volunteer Crews
The Food Crew will make and serve food.
The Sound Crew * will make sure everyone can hear everyone else.
The Childcare Crew ** * will supervise children’s activities.
The Tents ‘n’ Chairs Crew will make sure everyone has a dry place to sit and will pack up when it’s over.
Discussion Facilitators** will assist break-out groups with brainstorming, prioritizing, and decision-making.
The Materials Crew will photocopy and assemble hundreds of information kits for the meeting participants.
Greeters * will hand out the information kits and help people find the break-out section they want to sit with.
Stop the Cuts Network brings together organizations, neighbourhoods, and individuals to demand a stop to the cuts, the expansion of services, and no more handouts to cops and corporations. We meet about every two weeks to hear about what’s been going on in our respective neighbourhoods and organizations, to offer each other support, and to collaborate on planning for mass meetings and mobilizations.
The most effective way to get involved in Stop the Cuts organizing is by getting active in your neighbourhood. If your neighbourhood is not listed below and you would like to start something, contact tostopthecuts@gmail.com for support.
